Now this is
MY kind of city travel guide!
“The
Sparkle Factor” by Serena
I’ve had my eye on
a few pieces at Changes and I think I’ve made my decision! My
next jewelry purchase is going to be a long crystal necklace ($46)
from Vancouver jewelry artist Kazumi (featured above). She
crafts the most beautiful bracelets, earrings and necklaces from
Czech crystal beads, sterling silver clasps and hardware, pearls,
agate and clay. Her designs are full of glitz, glam, and
gorgeousness! I like the simplicity of the long strands of
crystal beads – the sparkle speaks for itself – but I also love her
eye for combining the faceted crystal beads with the
organic-looking agates and glazed clay.
If the dark
afternoons start getting you down, don’t hesitate to stop by and
seek out some sparkle at Changes!

"Everything’s
Coming up Roses" by
Serena
Roses are my
latest accessory obsession. They symbolize love and romance
and can add a different feel to any outfit. And what girl
can’t use a little more love and romance in her life?
Rose accessories
are everywhere lately. Samantha from the Sex and the
City movie started the trend this summer with her over-the-top,
diamond-encrusted rose ring. Of course, not everyone has
$50,000 to spend on a ring so here are some other
options.
Changes
Vancouver carries adorable (and handily adjustable!) rose rings ($7
each) that
come in a variety of colours to brighten up your fall and winter
wardrobe. If bold and beautiful isn’t your style, we also
have dainty and delicate carved mother of pearl rose necklaces made
by Vancouver jewelry designer Lulu. These sterling silver
chain necklaces seem to float on your skin, accenting and
highlighting your neck and collarbone – who could ask for
more?
Also check out
your local thrift, antique or charity shops. While roses are
trendy now, they’re also an iconic shape that resurfaces in jewelry
and accessory trends every decade or so – maybe you even have a
rose brooch in your jewelry box that hasn’t seen the light of day
in a while. Haul it out, shine it up and give it pride of
place on your lapel or hat this fall and winter!
As always, have
fun and enjoy the extra boost of romance that your new accessory
brings!

“Luscious Layering” by
Serena
Try
wearing a longer skirt or slip under a shorter skirt or dress to
create a fun and super stylish layering technique that is rarely
portrayed on the pages of fashion magazines!
Dresses have reigned as the
must-have wardrobe staple these past few seasons.
Now that the weather is cooling down, it is time to
take your skirts and dresses to a new level that will cozy them up
without losing their flirty flair that they are famous for.
First, you need a skirt or dress
for your outer layer. Choose a hemline that flatters
you – usually at or just slightly above the knee. Now you
need a second skirt or slip that will visibly hang lower than your
outer skirt or dress. Choose pretty prints or lace. You
can use a colour to contrast completely or compliment
quaintly. Next, you will need to get some cozy, opaque
tights. Changes Vancouver has amazing footless tights
galore in traditional black, charcoal grey, rich brown and a
grateful grape ($24). All you need now are some fabulous
boots and you’ll be warm, dry and undeniably chic this
fall!
If
you are missing any of these pieces, Changes has you
covered. Bring what you have of this four step combo to
Changes and we can help you find the perfect missing layers.
By examining what you already have in your fall wardrobe before you
come (or bring photos), you will get a better idea for
what colours will blend seamlessly with not only this layering
technique, but also with your entire fall
wardrobe.
Most
of all, have fun!
Serena
